Depending on their age, kids can experience creating stories, characters, comics, and the process of making a picture book! These workshops aim to unleash the child’s creative potential, hone artistic skills, build self-confidence, and help participants make new friends.

All workshops will be held at Piedras Platas Workshop Room, Adarna 2, 109 Scout Fernandez corner Scout Torillo Streets, Barangay Sacred Heart, Quezon City.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is new to the topic. Will he/she be able to follow?
Yes. The workshops are designed for beginners, but an interest in the topic will help the child have a more fruitful experience.

My child is younger/older than the ages specified for the workshop. Can he/she join?
No. To help our facilitator manage the class well for a more productive workshop, we are minimizing the age range of participants.

My child has special needs. Can he/she join?
Yes. However, our facilitators are not professionally trained to teach children with special needs. For best outcomes, we will require that the child be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is familiar with the child’s needs.

I’ve registered my child, what will he/she need to bring?
Should participants need to bring any materials, we will make sure that these are easily sourced and we will provide a list at least one week before the start of the workshop.

Do we need to complete all the days in the workshop?
No, but we recommend attending all the sessions to make the most out of the class. Some workshops may also guide participants through the steps of creating output, so missing out on a session might put unwanted pressure on the child to complete a project.

Can the guardian/parents stay in the workshop area?
Companions are required to stay in the hall beside the workshop area or at the bookshop while they wait for the kids. However, guardians/parents of children with special needs are required to shadow their kids during the workshop.

Will Adarna House provide snacks for the participants?
No. Adarna House will not provide snacks but participants are encouraged to bring their own. There will be a water dispenser in the workshop area so personal water containers will be helpful.

Are walk-ins allowed?
No. Adarna House will be preparing materials ahead of time, so we will need participants to be preregistered.

Will there be a graduation/recognition ceremony at the end of the workshop?
Yes. The very last part of the workshop will be an awarding of certificates and a simple presentation of the participants’ output.

How do I fulfill payment?
Bank deposit details will be provided upon completion of the sign-up form. (http://bit.ly/klasrumkids2020).

How do I avail of the early bird rates?
To avail early bird rates, email an image of the deposit at least one month before the start of the workshop.

Can I pay just part of the workshop fee for now to confirm my slot?
Slots are confirmed upon full payment on a first-come, first-served basis. Filling up the sign-up form (http://bit.ly/klasrumkids2020) will reserve your slot. When our sign-ups are full, we will ask whether we should continue holding your reservation or if we can give your slot away to new sign-ups. We might impose an earlier payment deadline in this instance.

My kid can’t join the workshop anymore but I already paid in full. Can I get a refund?
A full refund will be given in instances of cancellations at least ten (10) working days before the start of the workshop. No refunds, partial or in full, will be provided otherwise.

Notes:

1. Participants are not allowed to leave the premises of Adarna House during the sessions. Participants will be staying inside Adarna House’s premises.

2. The workshop will push through only if there are 10 confirmed attendees. We will inform you in advance if the workshop is canceled. Refunds will be made accordingly. Unless otherwise notified, the workshop will take place.

2010 Summer Workshops for Kids

School’s out!  Well, not yet, but we’ve got the perfect solution to filling your kid’s summer vacation with great (i.e. fun AND educational) activities.  We’ve prepared three arts and writing workshops for children, which will surely contibute to their collection of most memorable childhood memories.

As usual, we have the book making workshop (for ages 6 to 11), which will be facilitated by Jomike Tejido — author and illustrator of Ang Pambihirang Sombrero.  Jomike will guide the participants through the process of creating their very own book — from writing the story, to layout and illustrations, to designing the cover.  This year, the workshop will be held at the Filipinas Heritage Library, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN, starting on April 12 up until April 16 (Monday to Friday).  The fee is Php 3,500.00.

For ages 9 to 12, we are offering a book illustrating workshop at our showroom.  The workshop will be facilitated by our talented book illustrators, and will happen from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on May 3 to 7 (Monday to Friday).  Here, the kids will taught how to create studies, build storyboards, use different styles and trends in illustrating books.  The fee is Php 3,350.00.

To be held at our showroom also, the short story writing workshop (for ages 13 to 16) will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN from April 26 to 30 (Monday to Friday).  Facilitated by one of our authors, this workshop will feature intensive discussions on the basic elements of the shorty story.  The fee is Php 2,000.00 per head.

Fees are inclusive of all arts and writing materials needed for the workshop.  We will only be accepting a maximum of twenty-five (25) students per class on a first-come, first-served basis.  Enrolments completed before March 22, 2010 or registrations of 3 or more participants get a 25% discount.

For inquiries and registration, please call Grace through 372-3548 local 110 or grace [at] adarna.com.ph.  To see the printable e-brochure, click here!

2010 Summer Workshops for Adults

When the weather starts warming up for the summer, you know that the school year is coming to a close.  And because we know how much everyone misses school *wink* during the height of boredom *wink wink* called summer vacation, we are happy to open the registrations for this year’s Klasrum Adarna workshops for adults!

First up is our legendary Storytelling Workshop, facilitated by our just-as-legendary storyteller Jay Menes.  That will be happening the whole day of April 24, a Saturday.  The workshop, of course, will be about storytelling — how to prepare for a session, the tools of a storyteller, and the process of the storytelling proper.

Then, on May 22 (a Saturday also), UPIS teachers Celeste Laurel and Pamela  Razon will be doing the lecture-workshop on Teaching Beginning Reading.  This class will focus on the Four-Pronged Approach, a literature-based method of teaching children how to read.

Both workshops are open to anyone interested, and will be held in Seminar Rooms 1 & 2 of the Institute of Social Order (ISO) Complex inside the Ateneo de Manila Campus in Quezon City.  The registration table will open at 8:00 AM during the days of the workshop, and both workshops will start at exactly 8:30 AM.

The fee for the storytelling workshop is Php 1,300.00, while the TBR workshop fee is Php 1,750.00.  Fees already include food, workshop materials, and certificates.  A 25% discount is available for those who would be registering 3 or more participants, and to those who would fulfill the payment 15 days before the workshop.

The electronic registration forms are available for download here.  Please download the form/s and fill them out electronically.  Two buttons are present within the forms: click “Print Form” if you will be sending the form to us via fax (372-3548 local 115), or click “Submit by E-mail” and just follow the step-by-step directions that will pop up.

We’re accepting only a maximum of 50 participants per workshop, so please do verify that there are still slots available before making any payments.  For inquries and slot reservation, please get in touch with Ergoe through 372-3548 local 122 or ergoe [at] adarna.com.ph.
