As part of its 35th Anniversary celebration, Adarna House organized a Klasrum Adarna: Reading and Writing Camp for public school students in Talim Island last May 16, 2015. Kids ages 9 to 12 years old gathered at the Shining Light Christian Academy from 9am to 4pm to participate in activities prepared for them by Ms. Zarah Gagatiga and Mr. Darrel Marco.
Teacher Zarah facilitated a session where kids had a chance to choose books that they want to read. Teacher Darrel conducted storytelling sessions outdoors. The kids also got busy with art activities after Teacher Zarah conducted a storytelling session using the book Hipon and Biya.
In the afternoon, everyone worked on creating their very own storybooks about their families. The day ended with a read aloud session of stories written by selected students. All 26 kids went home with one Adarna storybook.
The staff of Shining Light Christian Academy, along with Mr. Paolo Romero who runs the school, were key to the success of the event. Adarna House expressed its heartfelt gratitude by donating a set of books which the school can add to its modest collection.
